Lightspeed Champion is back. The former testicle is back for a 2nd time to see if he can make things better with his Costello ish brand of pop. On 'Marlene', the first thing I noticed is that it doesn't feature him standing looing serious holding chickens and that. In fact he's gone for a rather pleasant line drawing of a mountain range. very tasteful and certainly less cryptic than those old sleeves. This got played in the office the other day and even though I was there I could sworn it wasn't played. I was threatened if i put it back on though as it didn't go down right well. For a come back single it's really unremarkable.... and the chorus sounds like an upbeat Gene song. There's a reasonably authentic cover of Serge Gainsbourg '69 Annee Erotic' which is so filthy it's making me wanna go down on someone now. Dirty Lightspeed.....In fact the B sides on this EP are way better than the lead track. Loads more interesting....
