The Soft Pack. Oh, the Soft Pack. A killer debut album would be expected of this San Diego 4 piece had they not already done one under that old contentious name. So they've merely delivered a thoroughly enjoyable, straight forward, no-frills garage pop album full of cute, familiar hooks and brief excitable songs that rattle along merrily, breathlessly. These songs also have an occasional tendency to suddenly vomit thrillingly caustic guitar solos down the side of your face making you giggle! I'm certainly not remotely disappointed as they've effortlessly straddled the void between being a powerful underground band & a modern indie pop success story - the single 'Answer to Yourself', for instance, sticks in your head like a superglue smeared nail shot at point blank range by your local friendly maniac. Throughout the course of this record there are many fantastic, thrilling tunes & hardly any tracks that could be bracketed as "filler". In today's saturated, baffling market, that constitutes a great album, unpretentious, old-skool & boisterous with all their embryonic hallmarks intact! Proper ace! CD/LP on Heavenly
