Beck produced and wrote all but one song on "IRM", the second album by Charlotte Gainsbourg and to these ears it's better than her debut "5.55". Beck's influence on proceedings is quite clear and even if it wasn't, he's added vocals all over the place just to make sure. One of the standout tracks is ...

Beck produced and wrote all but one song on "IRM", the second album by Charlotte Gainsbourg and to these ears it's better than her debut "5.55". Beck's influence on proceedings is quite clear and even if it wasn't, he's added vocals all over the place just to make sure. One of the standout tracks is the Beatlesy "Heaven Can Wait" on which the pair duet. Charlotte Gainsbourg's seductive, breathy vocals are a constant feature from the original opener "Master's Hands" to the very Beck-ish "Looking Glass Blues". The best track is "Time Of The Assassins" which is a genuinely brilliant song. One thing that I don't understand is that, with Beck going through a patchy period (by his own formidable standards) at this time, why didn't he keep some of these songs for himself?
