Pink Floyd's legendary rock opera The Wall gets a gatefold 2xLP reissue that doubles as a wall. The album that gets hailed as the Floyd's 'punk record' actually features their most (un)comfortably 'prog' anthem, as well as, y'know, THAT one that you hear in every pub ever. So raise your finger to Thatcher and invest in some seriously epic wax.

I think this is a great record despite the measly 8, but it gets into murky water on Side D because I've always thought that penultimate track was completely unnecessary in the grand scheme of things, makes sense live, doesn't make sense in the comfort of your own home.

All in all though, this feels more like a Waters record, although 'The Final Cut' is a more literal definition of that since you can barely make out Gilmour and Mason on it outside of solos and vocals (Wright was fired before then). But for the most part, it's fucking great. Excellent story-telling, excellent song-writing, and it conveys an excellent tone throughout. I just get a sour taste towards the end, otherwise it would be an easy 9 or 10. The LP artwork is immense too if that's your jam.

"Go on Judge, shit on him."

Although this isn't my favourite Pink Floyd album, there's no denying the power of the music the band came up with on its last release to feature Gilmour, Mason, Waters and Wright. As most fans are aware Wright was no more than a hired hand here (he had been fired by the band) and Waters who had increasingly begun to dominate the band's musical and lyrical direction continues to do so here. While diehard Floyd fans may say that Dark Side of the Moon was infinitely better, The Wall, disturbingly beautiful, is still an undisputed classic.
