Pink Floyd’s Animals features the mega-selling prog outfit beginning to turn dark and disillusioned, which made for more interesting music. Apart from the two tiny ‘Pigs On The Wing’ tracks, everything here is over 10 minutes in length. This new reissue has been remastered, and is pressed to 180g vinyl, and comes in a rather fetching package. Released by the band’s own Pink Floyd Records.

- Animals by Pink Floyd
10/10 Gregor Omelasz 31st January 2017
People say 'Dark Side of The Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here', I say 'Animals'. A ferocious effort from the once magical 4 (or 5 depending on what formation you deem to be the true Pink Floyd). Waters is at his most cynical lyrically, Gilmour is animalistic on guitar, and even Nick Mason sounds like a drummer on his record. Richard Wright is unfortunately buried in the mix but it doesn't really matter on this release, but would be more noticeable on records like DSOTM and WYWH since he's part of the reason they're both tied together so well.
Influenced by Orwell's short novel 'Animal Farm', this record is probably their most political outside of Waters', *ahem*, their final classic line up album, 'The Final Cut', and it's the last time for me where Pink Floyd were truly Pink Floyd. Don't get me wrong, 'The Wall' is excellent, but the stretch from 1972-1977 will always be classic Floyd for me. They're also one of the few bands I hold in high regard that don't actually pass the (my) 5 album test, go figure.
PS: 5 Album Test = 5 flawless albums back to back
