Yeasayer got's a new album coming out soon and the 'Ambling Alp' remix 12" is their little warning shot. Their first album didn't do masses for me but this single's quite cool (though not as cool as these weird video things) and far more electronic than I remember them being, with its fine, busy programming and forceful pop hooks evoking a bit of a 80s club feel whilst being far more complex and modern than that might imply. Oddly enough I'm reminded of The Faint, I think it's the vocals in particular. DJ/rupture busts out the Echoplex and takes things deeper, as you might expect, while Memory Tapes take the opposite approach, cranking the vocal and boosting the pop elements. The instrumental mix rounds out quite a tidy package, making me think that this is probably how 12"s of album tracks should probably all be done in this day and age.
