More golden loveliness from the Gringo records emporium this time from Leeds finest under-achievers Bilge Pump. I have an overwhelming bias toward this band and with good reason....not only are they Gringo's finest but they are also an amazing live group. Their previous two outings on Gringo records we're a total treat and this new 10" 'The Fucking Cunts Still Treat Us Like Pricks' is no exception with band taking things to strange and intriguing new places. It's worth noting that these new tunes are rather more considered and steady than previous outings and as a result they sound super fresh to my Bilge Pump familiar ears. Opener 'Tommy's Out' and 'I Trampled on David' are the best of the four; the former for it's sea shanty-esque melody an it's insane Brian May style solo and the latter for it's awesome chorus of 'We built this shitty city on rock 'n' roll'. Elsewhere i hear the influence of The Who and early Genesis in the grander scheme of the Bilge formula. If ingeniously skilled playing and excellent word smithery are your bag than you could do worse than to check out this band. Good work lads.
