8/10 Jonnie Fielding Customer review,
GOLD SOUNDS HOME SCHOOLED EPGold Sounds are a London based 5 piece that have been bubbling away on the London scene for a couple of years now, and just released their first EP. Although their name has more than a nod to 'Pavement', their sound is firmly in 'The Shins' camp, weaving melodies around the vocals of lyricist and front man George Napthine.'So It Goes' is a short, catchy, and marvelously heartfelt song that the band made a brilliant stop motion video for (directed by Harry Dwyer) and can be seen on You Tube. Amazingly, the song was recorded by bassist William Reid in his flat and is accompanied by an ensemble of woodwind and brass instruments that include members of The Rumble Strips. The remainder of the EP was recorded and mixed by Pete Fletcher at the First Love Studio in Nottingham. Many of the band originally hail from or resided in Nottingham and the final song on the EP, 'Sneinton Boulevard' takes its name from a street where the band lived. Their sound encapsulates Napthine's poetic lyricism, four part harmonies, an upbeat take on the darker sides of life & love, and great musicianship. Recently hand picked by BBC6's Tom Robinson to perform at his 'Fresh On The Net' festival at the Riverside Studios in London, and with an EP launch last week supported by Eugene McGuinness, GoldSounds look set to continue making waves in 2010.
