9/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 10 December 2009
Mexican Summer's records may be the expensive choice but it's most certainly the wise choice for christmas 2009. Steve Moore (of Zombi) has an awesome two track 10" available on the label and it sounds mega-super-sweet (as well as being super-ultra-mega limited). 'Fever Dream' is the theme music to your coolest future dreams with it's retro take on modern progressive electronic synth music sounding as refreshing as a cool glass of water on a summers day. Dreamy arpeggios dance tastefully around warm synth bass tones and cheeky electro-percussive patterns. It's slow burning soundtrack style tune with more than enough flavour to keep you amused. '30,000 Feet Deep' relies heavily on the power of arpeggio's and makes me feel like a contestant in The Running Man (which i'm only half pleased about as i don't have the stamina for such things....). This tracks builds slowly and benefits from a strong Carpenter-esque melody and upbeat tempo that could easily be compared to the Airwolf theme tune. Its the sound of an awesome future vision that will probably never come to fruition....which is a damn shame! Could only be improved by a Stephen Hawking's guest vocal....YO! RETRO-FUTURIST VISIONS OF CHRISTMAS!
