The music of Los Campesinos has somehow passed me by, which is odd considering their popularity. Anyway, new album 'Romance is Boring' sees the group extending their musical palette, introducing brass, chimes, vibes and electronics to create a vast and slightly overwhelming epic of a record. Recorded in the massive country of america and mixed in the smaller country of wales, Los Campesinos are clearly pulling out the big guns for this one. Upbeat single 'There are listed buildings' executes the pop/rock formula with casual ease but epics such as opener 'In Medias Res' sound clumsy in the hands of the hip indie funksters. As the record continues they have more success and with fifteen tunes on 'Romance is Boring' i'm sure there is something here for everyone into the band. This is an ambitious outing with plenty of meat to get your teeth into.
