Those trusty folks at Golden Lab have managed to secure the release of the new The Howling Hex record, entitled 'Rogue Moon'. It's a mind boggling collection of Neil Hagerty (Royal Trux) originals coupled with tracks by various artists produced by Hagerty. The opening track 'Dayfever' is a prime example of what's on offer here, a bizarre synth orientated space jam that sounds unlike anything I've heard from Hagerty. 'Rogue Moon' goes on to explore country, noise rock, psychedelic, funk, electro and spoken word with a determined lo-fi enthusiasm. These tracks sound amazingly refreshing to me, from the swampy Beck-esque groove of 'The day 'red alert' said my name' to the backward riffage of 'Hotel Riot' there is something here for all ears. Delightful stuff.
