A few years back Kieren Hebden disentangled a selection of Sunburned Hand of the Man's trademark jams into more palatable, rhythmical form and the result was Fire Escape (recently reissued on vinyl with eye ruining artwork from Yamantaka Eye). The result obviously pleased both parties because they're back with round 2, featuring artwork (and a mental poster) from the legendary Raymond Pettibon and entitled A. The premise is much the same but it's clear that both fashions and Hebden's focus have changed in the intervening years, with Sunburned's sounds being expertly diverted towards dub techno, dubstep, ambient and even house territories. My only complaint might be a lack of cohesion (something which could probably be leveled at Fire Escape too) but there are some pretty cracking tunes and it's a hell of an achievement in pure remixing terms, never letting up in terms of interest. One for adventurous souls!
