I loves me some Emeralds. This one came out about six months or so back on vinyl (which didn't last long, as usual) and here's the CD, all handsome on Hanson with its digipak and booklet of pretty colours. Initially I've got to say this one left me a little cold when I took it home but it's really grown on me with every listen, to the point where I can now say with conviction that this is prime Emeralds and I must've head my head up my arse when I first heard it. I don't think there's anyone else out there doing this kosmische tribute stuff anywhere near as well as these lads and this one showcases the various styles they play with fantastically well, you've got beautiful, droney Tangerine Dream washes, Klaus Schulze synth overlord workouts, Manuel Gottsching guitar soloing, bubbling early Cluster tone battles etc. etc. As a self-titled album you might expect this to be a little bit of a statement of intent and it does kind of do that job for them.. If you've not checked them out before it's the perfect place to start.
