1 review »Love him or loathe him (I expect most folks would lean towards the latter) GG Allin was certainly a “character” when it comes to punk rock icons. I mean anyone that wishes for a lawless no rules society and makes protest songs like ‘Legalize Murder’ (LOL) is a total nutjob to say the least. Love him or loathe him (I expect most folks would lean towards the latter) GG Allin was certainly a “character” when it comes to punk rock icons. I mean anyone that wishes for a lawless no rules society and makes protest songs like ‘Legalize Murder’ (LOL) is a total nutjob to say the least. That ‘Hated’ Documentary is well worth watching if you can track it down. My mate had a VHS tape of it years ago but wouldn’t let me borrow it in case I watched it with my mam. He thought she’d think he was some kind of sick freak. Understandable I suppose... But don’t get the wrong end of the stick here, it’s not like I used to watch snuff movies with her or anything. It has scenes of him doing all sorts of tomfoolery like throwing jobbies at the crowd, putting banana’s up his bottom and getting ladies to do a toilet on him... So here we have a 7” called ‘Violent and Obscene: A Tribute To GG Allin’ which has Fair-Oh’s doing ‘Automatic, Male Bonding covering ‘You Hate Me & I Hate You. Then on the flip there is Pens cranking out their version of ‘I Don’t Give A Shit and finally Graffiti Island with ‘Drink, Fight & Fuck”. I cant say that I endorse fighting but the other two activities are fine with me. This 7” is not bad at all with its lo-fi takes on these twisted punk rock songs from days gone by. Had you not known that these were covers you’d be forgiven for thinking that these were just new tracks coming from the current wave of US garage rock. 7” on Italian Beach Babes with funny retro psych-collage artwork.
