Tympanik Audio isn't a label I can remember coming across before but based on this Access To Arasaka CD they seem to deal in high quality goods. The majority of Oppidan is taken up with crunchy classic electronica that tends towards both the slower tempo and the hissy, mechanical percussion sound of mid/late 90s Autechre, with healthy smears of synthy ambience a la Amber. It's those sections I'm enjoying more, but the album as a whole does a fine job of contrasting cold desolation with warmer, more welcoming climes. You don't hear too many like this any more.
