8/10 Brett Staff review, 10 September 2009
I walked in yesterday to be greeted by the tail end if some ace dark synth shit and was told it was emanating from a record going by the name of A:05-07 by Anika, apparently a self-released LP of which there are only 300. Sticking it on today lead to a bit of a shock as it kicks off with an industro-goth banger that sounds as much like Ministry as anything else; it's a bit if a curve ball though, from there it goes more into that retro-future synth style I was expecting (John Carpenter's just SO hawt right now), evoking a similar sort of feel to that amazing Oneohtrix Point Never LP on Not Not Fun from a few months back except rocking a little more of an overt 80s underground influence. Anyone who mentions Chrome, Eno, Suicide and Neu in their press release is asking for bother but this album far from disgraces itself in such esteemed company, being an excellent wee releasey!
