Tracks and Traces by Harmonia & Eno '76

Brian Eno called Harmonia "the most important band in the world". That title should really have already persuaded you to give this record a whirl but here's some background info anyway: in 1976 Eno holed up for eleven days in Harmonia's Cologne studio and recorded what was to become 'Tracks & Traces'. It's a superb collection of krautrock with inviting pastoral undertones and a sense of rigorous experimentalism. This reissue contains three previously unreleased songs that were only made possible because of modern tape cleaning equipment. Marvellous. Out on Gronland.

9/10 Brian 16 September 2009
Gronland have taken it upon themselves to reissue the Harmonia 76 release 'Tracks & Traces', a vital collection from the post Cluster collective which also encompassed the myriad talents of Brian Eno. Now, I've been recently relishing the wave of quality Kraut re-issues from Bureau B & 4MWB and now this smashing collection! Tagging on 2 relatively lo-fi additional numbers at the beginning is kind of sweet really, they lull you into this bloopy analogue space theatre foyer before flinging open the door to the vast auditorium full of chuffing, chugging motorik sounds that compromised the original release! Not surprised The Human League sounded so fantastic if this is where they were "borrowing" their particular brand of startling alien sound from. For lovers of 70's Kraut & the Radiophonic Workshop, this timely repackage is as usual, essential, if only to maintain the behemoth that is Krautrock's chronology! And they're drinking tea on the cover, well RnR! LP/CD
