Part Chimp I always loved, back in the days when I listened to breakcore & fell over in a state every weekend. Well I don't listen to Shitmat any more but I'm still prone to falling over on occasion & still revel in the fuzzy revved up mess that these guys force out of their speaker stacks. 3rd album in and it's business as usual. 'Thriller' opens with this stunning track that weighs in somewhere between Kyuss & Th' Faith Healers, all overloaded superfuzz groove with some blissed mantra style vocals whispering in the mix. I know people love The Heads but I'm convinced these guys could wipe the floor with them! Does this music have an associated dance? The Stoner Lurch i'd call it. The album continues in the huge, shaggy dirt rock style that their previous incarnation Ligament only ever hinted at. If anything they've got heavier & more psychedelic with hearty nods to the sludge and grind typical of Melvins & Gore et al in there. But at the end of it all they still sound like a fabulous hard rockin' party band that come from nowhere more salubrious than a beaten-up boozer in Camberwell. That cheeky minx Tracy Bellaries from Ikara Colt is now playing bass for them apparently, although I know not whether she is responsible for the amped-up low end treacle currently pouring into my ears. Absolutely fantastic stuff from the most reliable band on the planet right now. CD only!
