8/10 Jack Customer review, 24th July 2015

When I heard "Crosswinds" on KCRW it was an instant convert before I even heard the vocals. J. Tillman is the drummer for a famous alternative band from Seattle (Fleet Foxes.....and he later became Father John Misty - sales ed). His solo music is stark, evocative, and powerful. Year in the Kingdom is beautifully produced, with a kind of magisterial restraint. Tillman possesses an excellent voice and the material he composes and sings on this album is a perfect vehicle for those amazing vocals. Only about 35 minutes of music on this album, but not a note is wasted.
