For The Sake Of The Song by Townes Van Zandt

For The Sake Of The Song was the debut album from troubled but brilliant singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Like a lot of records of the era it was somewhat overproduced as strings and other ephemera were slapped on top of his heartfelt songs. Van Zandt would later re-record most of these songs in more stripped down fashion but it is still a fascinating artefact of where it all started.

This is a great reissue of a classic album by the great Townes Van Zandt and despite coming out in 1968 it still sounds as great as when it was released. One of my personal favourite track off the album is the great "Sad Cinderella" which shows how great his voice was and his very unique guitar playing style. This is a great folk album which is hard not to enjoy. Its also a great listen with no bad track. It is just one of the many great albums in his discography and showcases how much of a talent he really was.
