Landstrumm is one of the few Neils I know that is probably cooler than a horde of uber icy raspberry popsicles in a hammock, reclining in the Bahamas. His take on dubby grime & 8-bit electro ghetto tech is quite brilliant and on this new mini LP 'Bambatta Eats His Breakfast' showcases another step further along the individualistic line he's forging for himself. From the strutting electro hip-hop of 'The Coconut Kestrel' replete with those fabulous space invader gurgles, onto the simultaneously haunting & evocative 'Eva', he's re-inventing dance music for a new generation, keeping integrity in the mix whilst injecting his genre busting floor burners with a large dose of fun! 'How Do You Feel' is my stand out, gibbering gameboy burbling, an stunning sidewinding bassline that morphs & shifts like a particularly malevolent snake & a warped, dark dancehall feel with the occasional disembodied vocal sample adding to the general eerieness. This is the most fun i've had with one of this Scotsman's records yet and he's been responsible for many a blinder. Prepare for some forward thinking soundsystem shaggers with nary a FlyLo-esque sick purple wowism in sight, this is the sound of Edinburgh's darkened back rooms - TURTLE BASS in full perverted flow. Damaged as fuck.
