You know that Luke Vibert thing? That thing he does where for the first handful of tracks on an album you're all like "This is fucking mint" then a few tracks later you're all like "Ooh, he's a bit diverse" then by the end you're all like "What a silly billy"? Well he's done it again on his new one We Hear You (CD/triple LP on Planet Mu). He's a supremely talented guy ...

He's a supremely talented guy and can turn his hand convincingly to pretty much any style under the sun but the way he attempts to do it all in the space of one album just ends up making the ones he's done under his own name a bit annoying (with Yoseph being my one personal exception). The initial tunes take in elements of dubstep and the soulful, sample-heavy hip-hop of the likes of Madlib and MF Doom and are the strongest on the album by far in my opinion, while later tracks flit about from style to style with his usual gay abandon.. House, acid, techno, blah blah blah. Plenty of them would be great tunes when heard alone, but personally I get a bit fatigued when they're all jumbled up together like this. Your mileage may vary..
