9/10 Phil Staff review, 02 July 2009
Autumn Ferment have a new series of Seasonal 7"'s coming your into your immediate area. The first one is a split between Emily Scott and Helene Renault and as it's called 'Summer' then you can expect a pair of Summery songs! Emily Scott makes a delightful summery pop song featuring a chap from the Incredible String Band playing banjo. It's just right for this weather! She has a lovely voice alright... I'm only half way through the song and succumbing to it's slightly folky jazzy charms. Delightfully simple like a cucumber sandwich and a small pot of tea...Helene Renault on the flipside makes a more European sounding 60's hazy pop sound. Again it's all very innocent and charming sounding... this one is recorded by a chap from the Papercuts in San Francisco (for that genuine 60's psyche pop vibe) and it features a lady from the Skygreen Leopards knocking out some rhythmic shit (ie she's playing drums and whatnots). Very lovely sounding 7" which is going down a treat today!! 3 more seasons to go!
