Next on the platter is a curious self-titled LP by Le Drapeau Noir which is an octet that comprises the people from Choral, Hunter Gracchus and Part Time Wild Horses Mane. The record is a live recording of their free improvisation which includes both acoustic and electric elements. They certainly whip up a good sound that is difficult to categorize and for me to attempt to do so would be pointless. There's some pretty far out string sounds and when they really get going they build a wonderfully dense sound full of strange percussion and weird vocals, bass, reed, flute etc. As you'd expect with eight players there's plenty happening. A nice mix of quieter parts lets you grab a breath between these primal, tribal and magical jams. Out on Chironex Records.
