.....Pissed Jeans!! 'King of Jeans' is a smart follow up to the collapsing gutter squall of 'Hope For Men'. If you ain' t heard this dirty, brooding psychotic punk mess of a band then you'd better get whip smart fucking quick. A frankly unhealthy blend of Jesus Lizard, 'Bleach' era Nirvana & The Stooges, they're genuinely unnerving & feral enough to sear your face clean off in places. The drums sound like they've fallen off some stoner truck, the guitarist raises shards of fuzzy squealing junk out of his guitar and the bass player pummels those strings with vicious abandon. Oh the singer. He spent the last gig I saw them at slamming into the audience with a totally nihilistic bug-eyed fuck-you attitude and was none less remarkable for the fact his mic was broken for the entire gig so you couldn't hear the raspy sludge spilling out of his throat. A right primal, thrilling car wreck of delight, these guys are sneakily hiding that ancient hallowed Sub Pop dirt-rock crown down the front of their soiled threads. I think I may be in scuzzy love with these deranged muppets, this album is bristling with the tunes you really want to hear this week and your mum, no matter how cool, will absolutely hate them so they must be doing summat right. CD/LP, go get filthy.

In between 2007's relatively underwhelming 'Hope for Men' and 2013's excellent 'Honeys', Pissed Jeans dropped 'King of Jeans', a collection of songs dealing with subjects like upskirting, pornography, male pattern baldness, and laziness. The album features what is by now probably their best known song ('False Jesii, Part 2'), one of their most common set openers ('She is Science Fiction'), and possibly the song on which their sound veers closest to orthodox 'punk', as well as the only song of any band to which I've ever crowdsurfed ('Human Upskirt'). Whilst all of these songs are very good, the album also features a fair bit of filler like 'Spent' and 'R-Rated Movie'. I'd definitely recommend getting this album to existing Pissed Jeans fans. For those unfamiliar with them, you'll probably dig them if you like bands like the Melvins, Mudhoney, Scratch Acid, and Fucked Up, but either of their last two albums, the aforementioned 'Honeys' or 2017's 'Why Love Now' would probably serve as better points of introduction than 'King of Jeans'.
