I had to do a bit of research to uncover info about Chapi Chapo et les pitites musiques de pluie as their press release is all in French and I'm no good with languages (english included but you know, I struggle on by). Chapi Chapo et les pitites musiques de pluie (which translates as 'Chapi-Chapo and wee music for rainy times') are, to some extent, a tribute to french stop motion animation series 'Chipo Chapo' that aired in the mid 70's and it's soundtrack composer Francois de Roubaix. On new album 'Chuchumuchu' Chipo chapo......pay homage to the tone of this particular show, composing all their music using a selection of really cool looking (and sounding) toy instruments much like Roubaix. You'd think this would be really cute but it's far more unsettling than you'd imagine. If this is a re-imagining of a childhood lost then it was probably a pretty spooky childhood. Chocker (17 tracks yo) with strange gypsy folk songs, strange circus instrumentals and bizarre combinations of sounds it reminds me of A.P.A.T.T or A Hawk and a hacksaw but played with toy-town style. The soundtrack to your childhood dreams and nightmares. Whoa....
