Debut album of the short-lived dream pop band. Galaxie 500 are the kind of band whose mastery of texture and unrepentant slowness makes them an ideal salve for the mind. I don't know how hectic life is on a Tugboat, but if I was on one, I'd be content knowing this calming trio were at the helm.

REVIEWS
8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 25th October 2014
According to Dean Wareham, prior to meeting New York producer Kramer (who produced Galaxie 500’s debut album “Today”) all they did was play verse-chorus-verse for a couple of minutes. Whilst the songs do remain simple in terms of chords, and that is the essence of their beauty, Kramer was able to shape what was previously fairly amorphous. Although the fact that Galaxie 500 sound like Galaxie 500 and no one else, makes me think that Dean Wareham was being a little modest with his statement. “Tugboat” is the highlight of this album. There is also a stunning cover of Jonathan Richman’s “Don’t Let Our Youth Go To Waste”. This is simple, beautiful, emotional music. The meandering sound of Galaxie 500 is pretty essential stuff.
