The Hepburns is the brainchild of Guitar/vocalist Matt Jones whose band seem to have been around along time. I'm sure they had some stuff out years ago but i've not heard much from them until this appeared on my desk. For those of you in the know The Hepburns make very intelligent, sophisticated pop music with constant references to literary greats and whole days lost to booze madness. 'Trojan Hearse' is a beautifully melodic record that takes the best eleven songs from a mammoth ninety track recording session (now that's alot of ideas for one rekkid) and presents them in a tasteful and laid back manner. The music sounds very much like The Monochrome set or The Smiths but i can also hear a little Stereolab in there too. Matt Jones vocals are insightful, fun and very well articulated. You get the impression that's what the band are all about, leave plenty of room for the vocals to breath and lyrics to sink in and before you know it you'll be hooked. Proper U.K pop traditionalists. Take a listen yo!
