Originally released in 2009 by Drifting/Falling records, ‘Collected Recordings’ is a testament to what can be achieved with deliberately limited instrumentation and production. Using only an acoustic guitar, economical vocals and the most tasteful amount of reverb, Gareth Dickson has created a beautifully simplistic ambient folk record.

- Collected Recordings by Gareth Dickson
9/10 RR 25th April 2014
As can be expected from the renowned 12k label, this has quite an ambient tendency. Beyond the meditative quality of a lot of the tracks here – from simple guitar-dominated, reverberated atmospherics to raga-like moods, fingerpicking miniatures and drone-type pieces – there's a lot to enjoy in Gareth Dickson's songwriting and gentle singing as well, reminiscent of Nick Drake. The recording quality is excellent; this very warm and personal "sound world" really ties the album together and makes it a unified whole. In addition to the excellent guitar playing and explorative feel, the lovely textural experimentation in the track "Like A Clock" provides a counterpoint to the sweetness that prevails on this album. Highly recommended!
