DMX Krew are no strangers to a fine quality release and 'Wave funk volume 1' is no exception. This 12" release is the first installment of a larger body of work that will appear later in the year as a double CD set. Everything on this tasty slab of wax is worth a listen and will no doubt have a few folk shuffling in their chairs come release date. Inspired primarily by electro but jazzing it up with elements of Techno, hip-hop, funk and spacey trance 'Wave funk....' takes in all sorts of influences whilst putting their own custom spin on things. 'Space ride' is awesome, coming of sounding like the soundtrack to some unreleased John Carpenter film but filtered through Aphex Twin's fancy home gadgets to give a squelchy acid feel, well nice. 'Gravity Boots' also kicks some serious ass with it's Herbie Hancock bass grove accompanied by a tasteful old school electro beat. Title track 'Wave Funk' also has a hint of that Herbie Hancock-esq funk groove with lots a arpegiated melodies and wonky little (almost) dub-step style bass line. Suited to both dance parties and chin stroking home listening, 'Wave Funk volume 1' has a little something for you all. Check it out yo!
