1 review »Brooklyn seems to be an eternal hotspot for quality bands and ambitious releases, this most certainly applies to Dirty Projectors whose new L.P 'Bitter orca' is chocker with confidence and crazy ideas. At first it makes me think of YES due to the sweet dynamics and wild vocal arrangements. Brooklyn seems to be an eternal hotspot for quality bands and ambitious releases, this most certainly applies to Dirty Projectors whose new L.P 'Bitter orca' is chocker with confidence and crazy ideas. At first it makes me think of YES due to the sweet dynamics and wild vocal arrangements. To an extent it sounds like Led Zeppelin but no-one in the office agrees with me so i'll justify that comment with more talk....check out the drums, pure Bonham both in approach and sound....also observe the beautifully clear acoustic guitars, pure Led Zep yo! I'm also hearing some slide guitar circa Led Zep III. Dirty Projectors have also taken the time to absorb a little of the afro-beat groove that has become a staple of hip New York bands, this suits me just fine and is done tastefully with respect and appreciation. Ok, so there are plenty of reference points but 'Bitter Ocra' is genuinely ambitious in scope and comes of sounding original and unique. There is more going on here than i can keep track of so please take the time to check out the sound clips for this one. Really good stuff! Also, note the Indies' only (that's us kids) 2CD set that includes the five track E.P 'Still is the move' that features a sweet Lucky Dragon's remix of the title track. Double note, also to be made available on a limited tape format (again, for Indies' only) with a free download code for those of you without a trusty tape player. Definitely recommended!
