Dexter Poindexter is the latest hopeful on WeePOP!, starring on one of their fine limited 3" CDs (his is called The Adventure EP). His schtick consists of strummy wistful pop that seems to fall somewhere between Jeremy Jay & Hefner on 'Sails', 'A Pleasant View' has a 'baggy' drumbeat, chiming, shimmering guitars & a beautiful whirring organ being woozy all over the shop. His personable style & the upbeat nature of his music is very pure & unfussy. Also, the vocals are quite understated & reserved so don't intrude on the music but he's got a really clear & harmonious voice so I think he's not being shy, just letting his catchy & eclectic tunesmithery do the talking. A very traditional but bright set of melodic semi-acoustic indie pop with some cracking tunes to be enjoyed. 7 numbers in all, in one of those sweet dinky packages as always!

10/10 Sarah Foster Customer review,

I was floored when I realised that this 'outfit' was, in fact, one person. Dexter Poindexter's first release on WeePOP seems like something a music veteran might have released; Perfect tight sound with melodies you feel like you heard before (in a very good way). I did a bit of research, and found that Dexter has in fact released a number of EP's and even a full record on a much much much lesser known (and therefore much much more charming) DIY label called Brown Bear Records. The twang and twee of this record, juxtaposed with his earlier records like 'Salute Your Shorts' suggest this boy might be a 'part-time punk'. Specifically, the music of The Adventure EP keeps my interest with countless nuances and lyrics suggesting a dark past with particular love. Maybe the boy is just a poet, maybe he's venting his troubles to the rest of the world (interestingly enough he's a Yankee), either way... pick up the record as soon as possible. You won't regret it.
