8/10 Phil Staff review, 16 April 2009
I have a bit of a soft spot for Screaming Mimi. I think I'm at a stage in my life when the indie music I can cope with has female vocals on it (bar the odd exception). It sits more comfortably on my fat ears. I'm pretty sure we gave 'em single of the week a while back for their debut... I can't remember.... It would take me seconds to check but oh no... The lethargy is too strong. Here's their debut album 'Leap into My Fervent Arms' and it's chocka full of decent pop songs including that single of the week tune 'Who Is Louise' which is a top tune. There's plenty of decent pop songs on the label and the whole thing is a mish mash of bands like Scaramanaga 6, Salad, and (early) Throwing Muses. Sturdy female fronted indie pop music which has ample charms and enough quality to keep my ears pricked from start to end which rarely happens these days. On Sheffield's marvellous Phantom Power records.
