What was the last aXXo you downloaded? I reckon mine was The Lost Boys. It's depressing how they all used to be loads older than me and now they look like little nippers with their bikes and their haircuts and their oily saxophone players. Anyway this aXXo comes on vinyl with a tasty spray painted inner sleeve that almost knocked Phil out yesterday when I shoved it in front of his face, such was its solvent freshness. Our Anthony wrote an essay about the debut release from this shadowy lot and it was certainly a bit of a beauty, brave then for the follow-up to be so different but they manage to pull it right the way off. These four tracks take a slower, more traditionally dubby tack and can only really be classified as 'dubstep' by the wobbly waves which tend to be used more as a higher frequency melodic device rather than as dancefloor vibrating trouserflappery. In terms of an eerie atmosphere this is conjuring up comparisons to Portishead as well as the quality experimental dub On-U Sound used to put out back in their glory days.. We can also hear some Renegade Soundwave in the mix although it obviously doesn't have the slightly dated feel of that stuff. If you think the dub's been falling out of dubstep of late and you want to get yourself a fix then the fantastic 'No Idlers' will do that job for you with a minimum of fuss and a surplus of quality.
