8/10 Li'l Biz 02 April 2009
Candythief is the performing name for singer/songwriter Diana Cabarrus. With the assistance of pals on drums, bass and fiddle Diana loving crafts a patchwork of psychedelic gypsy folk lullabies for you to snuggle up to in the form of Technicolour Wilderness. Light and breezy arrangements are the order of the day here. Occasional spooky melodies sneak into the mix on the odd track here and there but mainly this dreamy stuff, full of charm and enthusiasm. This most certainly brings to mind the likes of Joanna Newsom, Cat Power and PJ Harvey but has more in common with the 60s folk performers like Peter, Paul and Mary due to its slightly blissed out psychedelic feel. Certainly worth investigating if you like a little folk rock in your musical diet.
