Depeche Mode asserted their plans to make the most ubiquitous songs ever with Sounds of the Universe. That said, the record is one of the more modest entries in their canon, caged in with restrained but still pantomimic programmed percussion and slow-moving synth; it's a pop masterpiece of the gradual variety. Be patient.

8/10 Jack Customer review, 25th May 2015

This album is definitely not disappointing! Moreover, when it comes in a set of 3 CD's, a DVD with videos, pins, cards, posters and beautiful books, it makes the purchase well worth the money for all Depeche Mode fans out there. The album has the most effective use of guitar since `Violator' it carries most of the songs without being over the top, the percussion is all programmed and is very subdued and low on the mix. The combined vocals of David Gahan and Martin Gore have never worked so well and they are almost equally present in all of the songs.
