The first installment in what appears to be the Young Widows series of split 7"s features Bonnie Prince Billy so they've obviously got a bit of pull going.. I didn't hear his last LP as it came when I wasn't in but apparently this sounds nothing like it, which is a shame as it's rather wonderful. Touching, soaring and earthy, it's like a man dropping to his knees in the bleakest winds of the Dust Bowl and praying for salvation. I've heard good things about Young Widows themselves and they do sound pretty cool, mining that old Jesus Lizard-y Touch and Go sound with style to spare. The bassline in particular has 'Seasick' written all over it. Probably the best split 7" I've heard in a while and there's Melt Banana and Pelican to come in the series apparently!
