7/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 21st October 2014

This is album that seemed to gain Dinosaur Jr more popularity, not their best album, but one people seem to like, a bit like with Pavement and “Brighten The Corners”. However, it’s certainly not their worst and there are some great songs on here. “Feel The Pain” opens the album; this was all over MTV at the time, good riff, decent song, but not the best on here. “I Don’t Think So” is not typical of Dinosaur Jr. although it is a great song. It seems to go more pop than J Mascis usually would go. “Yeah Right” has fantastic riff and the title and lyrics are utterly typical of the slacker perception of Mascis, “So I can’t live without it, so that’s a big surprise, yeah right”. “Outta Hand” is a gentle love song. J Mascis never seems to be that cathartic with his lyrics and I get the feeling that this is as close as he gets. There’s a stodgy bit in the middle of this album but “On The Brink” again has a great riff and is a good song. “Seemed like The Thing To Do” is a slow acoustic number with the trademark Mascis moan just about making us aware of the melody. The track is “Over My Shoulder” and is okay. Not their best, not their worst.
