8/10 gbar Customer review, 6th March 2017
This is the first Mono album to feature a full orchestra, and that provides the album's pronounced magnitude. The agonizing, climbing guitar parts stand amongst swaying, buttressing cellos and violins by the dozen, while flutes and glockenspiels liven those quieter moments. It is especially impressive that the orchestra is not used merely as a sonic enhancer to the vast guitarscapes already in place, but as its own musical entity that often guides segments of the songs, giving the album a flavour more akin to modern classical than with anything rock. This also creates something quite rare in the vast, abrasive, and often vaguely absurd world of post-rock, in its frequency of memorable, gorgeous melodies, and as an album it grows in beauty and stature the more I listen to it.
