We've had some good records in this week but dnerlenerlener! Here comes a new challenger! Anyone roughly my age probably has fond memories of playing Street Fighter II back in the olden days and if you don't then you seriously missed out because it was the shit. The abysmal Atari ST version I endured at home wasn't the best (five minutes of loading for about ninety seconds of gameplay and only two bloody buttons on the joystick) but electrifying Domink Diamond's Chun Li with lowly Blanka and winning a t-shirt was probably the greatest moment of my life up to that point. It's possible that it still is, come to think of it. So to mark the release of Street Fighter IV we've got these amazing Street Fighter II Battle Vinyl LPs from Capcom, pressed on fetching orangey wax and containing sound effects from the old classic on one side and the music on the other. It's going to be a bit of a dream for DJs and sample fiends this one, although it's certainly enjoyable on its own terms in a surreal sort of way.. The vocal and effects side is particularly comical, the brilliance of a few moments of silence followed by some guy saying 'Japan!' can't really be overstated, while the old-school MIDI instrument wedding march on the other side is another bizarre highlight. In terms of pure joy, this record's going to be hard to beat for those of a certain age. Oh yeah and Phil says if you send cash to the 'Buy Brett An Arcade Stick Fund' (registered charity) at my home address you can all have free records for life. What a lovely gesture!
