We've just got some cool stuff from Qbico and it's been decided that I'm going to do the expensive one again. These are now going to be my trademark reviews, the ones I show to the grandkids. The little fuckers are going to be really impressed with this one because I don't know anything about it whatsoever and their website's gone demented and won't work, I think it's Armonicum by Maurizio Abate but the writing's all wobbly. He's proper giving his guitar some stick in these tidy instrumental avant-blues numbers, you can practically hear the strings begging for mercy. Imagine John Fahey recording The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death after he's lost his keys, watched his team lose and found his lady in bed with his previously loyal horse - that's about the level of intensity we're looking at on this one. The fact that it's kept up through some very lengthy tracks encompassing a variety of picking styles, heavy strumming and slide techniques is pretty staggering to be honest.. His arm must feel like it's tugged off the Green Giant by the end of the first track. It's not all full-on raging though, there's also some slower tracks with elements of raga and drone (of the more traditional sitar-y kind) that are up to the same ultra-high standard. A pretty excellent LP that fans of Loren Connors, Jack Rose and the like with no doubt fall head over heels in love with.
