I'm not entirely sure what to make of The Long Lost. I have their 'Amiss' 7" piping out the speakers and for some reason was reminded of Nouvelle Vague. Phil has just mentioned them too (as well as Cibelle) so I'm glad I'm not going mad. What strikes me about this song is that it seems a little unnecessarily noodly like there's a big jazz solo waiting to burst out of the lounge folk meanderings. On repeared listens the awkwardness of the groove seems to make a bit more sense. They had Flying Lotus remix them on a previous 12" and on this record they've got Tunng who strip out the jazzy element and replace it with a quirky keyboard and acoustic guitar strumming. Both the clattering drums and the guitar are very Tunng. In fact the only element I can recognize from the original version is the vocal. It gets some nice synths splatterd all over it towards the end too. Out on Ninja Tune.
