So, is Sytheme Global Goon or not? And and Brian reckon he's admitted it but the answer could've been there for all to see from the beginnning: take the first and third letters of each track title on the debut 12" on Weme and you'll spell out 'Global Gon Yes'. Tricky fucker! I get a bit bored of all this 'mystery producer' stuff if I'm being brutally honest.. Maybe a part of me always hopes it'll be a fresh new talent, only to be let down when, yet again, it turns out to be some sweaty old bloke we've heard a million times before. Well, working on the assumption that this is Global Goon, I reckon this is far better than the ambient electronica he used to pump out in his Rephlex days. I always found the EPs too bitty (whenever I started getting into something the next track always seemed to follow too quickly) but the brevity of the tracks seems to make total sense in the environment of a full-length; threaded together with a common tempo and the constant gurgle of an expertly manipulated 303, they create a sort of extended 'acid suite' which seems to be more than the sum of its parts. Plus you'd actually have to be dead not to want to dance to it, which is the most important thing. If you liked Aphex's Analord series and fancy a housey version with occasional disco, 8-bit and electro inflections then you're gonna wanna bagga yourselfa copy ofa Lazers 'n' Shit. Note that the vinyl cuts the tracks previously released on the EPs though!
