Mountains involves a man called Koen Holtkamp who I thought I didn't know but then I saw his name written down and I actually did. He's had stuff out on Type and that. He does this stuff with his BFF Brendon Anderegg and it's really, really good floaty ambience for incense lovers and josstick lickers. The band name's pretty fitting as it does a fine job of evoking misty pastoral scenes and those transcendent 'shafts of light poking through the clouds' moments. Everyone knows Brian Eno emits little tinkles with his every movement (he started his adult life as a cat burgler before realising music was a better career path) and I imagine his holidays in the Lake District probably sound quite like this. It's early, I'm half asleep and struggling to put two words together but I think this is one of the best ambient LPs I've heard in ages. So there. Choral is out on CD and LP via Thrill Jockey.
