Greg Malcolm has one of those first name last names... where both names are first names. I've always had a soft spot for folks with double first names. Here's his new CD on Interregnum called 'Leather and Lacy'. The album consists of live versions of jazz tunes by Steve Lacy played by Greg in his 3 guitars style. Yes he plays 3 guitars at once. Fucking octopus of a man if you ask me... he plays 2 with his feet and one in the regular way you'd play a guitar (not your teeth...). I'm not really a jazz man as such. As I was younger I was quite into it but as I've got older it fills me with fear and dread (like pirates still do). However this sounds quite unjazzy and more folky. It's an odd thing which is doing the biz on second listen for me. Lots of acoustic guitar played in a very free way which is extremely ungrating on the ear and it's actually kind of soothing. Lots of weird noises in the background to keep the disturbo's happy but over them is some gorgeous picking and plucking. Excellent!!
