Always quite like The Rifles yer knurr. They've a new CD out called 'Great Escape' which judging by the sleeve (band silhouetted against neon backdrop playing their mod hearts out, one wearing pork pie hat) should stink like the cable I just left in the loo 5 minutes ago but works beautifully as a commercial indie pop/rock album. They've got some classic Britpop hallmarks down pat ranging from the Jam/Madness 80's radio/terrace pop to erm....contemporary radio/terrace pop like Kaiser Chiefs/Pigeon Detectives but with much better songs & less cringeworthy lyrics. Some of it's a little banal but they still have a strong sound and some damn feisty tunes spilling with professional pop nous on this latest long player. Nothing quite as great as that debut single from years ago but they're keeping their fringes well trimmed & their songs catchy as you like, bursting with sharp hooks, itchy guitar lines and anthemic choruses. We all agree this band are much better than most of the ladrock idiots out there, a genuine passion for the game sets them apart, rather than just clueless careering. Cheap as well but just until initial copies run dry.....
