Apparently Ludo Mich is one of those weird Fluxus artist types (search around for some pictures, he looks a funny little man) and he's teamed up noisy folks Blood Stereo for one of the oddest records we've had in for a while. Apparently Ludo Mich is one of those weird Fluxus artist types (search around for some pictures, he looks a funny little man) and he's teamed up noisy folks Blood Stereo for one of the oddest records we've had in for a while. I'm guessing from the title that From Tapes and Throats was made by letting the old Belgian nutjob loose on a microphone while they record and loop it back, a bit like Martin Swope used to do with Mission of Burma. The band wisely let the vocals do the majority of the work, with just a little swirling discord underneath for colour. The result is terrifying, disturbing and frequently hilarious. It's like the soundtrack to some sort of comedy hell - or as Ant says, a David Lynch sequence like those bits in Twin Peaks' Black Lodge. All the moaning, crying, groaning and nervous laughter reminds me of Brian not being able to find his keys this morning.. I've never seen a man go from 'normal' to '3000% stressed' in so few seconds. Be prepared for anyone who witnesses you listening to it thinking you're a fucking nutter though. Ludo Mich clearly doesn't have all his buttons sewn on himself.. Not that I'm worried about that since we've got his lunacy to thank for this ace super-experimental LP, as much an audio art installation as a record (sorry, I bought an issue of The Wire this month and I think it's rubbing off). Vinyl only with cool artwork and limited to 250 on Giant Tank.
