'100% Dynamite NYC' has been due to be released for ages. At least it seems like it, as we got a promo months ago. Brian has been cranking it up while driving around Leeds in his tinted windowed Mercedes droptop Kompressor with his Uzi, giving out menacing stares with some huge mushroom clouds of ganja smoke following him around. He has a dreadlock wig and spits phrases like "Bumbo Klaat" through his gold teeth. Ali G aint got shit on him believe me. Anyway Gangsta B's pursuits aside, the deal with this comp is Dancehall reggae meets rap in New York City. It's a fusion of styles made in heaven. I suppose you could trace the roots of hip-hop back to Jamaica as Kool DJ Herc was a Jamaican immigrant. So the two strains were destined to fuse. Toasting, rapping, riddims and breakbeats all get the head nodding. Of course this is a period in dancehall that a lot of original fans dislike, as much of the spritual vibes were replaced with Raggamuffin gangster/ gun chatter. The set is available as a double CD and two double LP's. I defy anything with a pulse not to want to bust a move to cuts from Supercat, Yankee B, Shinehead, Red Fox, Rayvon, Shaggy, Bobby Konders, Super C, Mad Lion, Lady Apache, Jamalski, Ugly Man, Ken Albert, Rankin' Don, Terror Fabulous and loads more. I watched 'Rockers' again last night, what a top movie that is :)
