Starkey's Epehemeral Exhibits is in on CD and waxslab, not-so ephemerally exhibiting the style that's comically become known as 'wonky'. Along with Rustie, Joker and the like, this young buck specialises in fashioning slightly comical, upbeat tunes from dubsteppy building blocks. Keeping the bass but shedding the broody urban murk in favour of high pitched widdling, he's ended up with a sound not too far away from 80s cartoon theme tunes remixed by E'd up grime DJs. There are elements of hardcore, rave, garage, breakbeat in the mix too, it's a pretty varied one. I'm feeling the overwhelming temptation to get up on our knackered work surfaces and dance around like a cyborg spider with malfunctioning machine parts but I'm scared I'll fall behind one of the giant piles of jiffy bags. Nice one Planet Mu, this one's a well passin' clownshoe that rocks some serious funky beatz.
