I'd always assumed iLiKETRAiNS were shit, probably because of their silly name and the fact that I've never seen them on any decent bills despite the fact they're from around here. I'd always assumed iLiKETRAiNS were shit, probably because of their silly name and the fact that I've never seen them on any decent bills despite the fact they're from around here. So finally I get to hear them on The Christmas Tree Ship and, much to my surprise, they're actually pretty good and do a completely different type of music to what I'd expected. I'm reliably informed that their tracks generally have Michael Gira-style vocals on but the five tracks here are entirely instrumental, painting Godspeedy aural pictures apparently on the subject of a shipping disaster. Post-rock does love a good disaster to be all epic about, doesn't it. You get about a half hour of music plus a DVD of a similar length for less than a fiver, can't beat that for value.. We're not entirely sure what's on the DVD but Phil suspects that the CD contains the soundtrack to a short film that's on there. Either way, you can't go far wrong with this evocative weepfest.
